Tactical Targets: Pinned Pieces

Roadmap > Tactics Targets > Pinned Pieces

Example of Targeting a Pinned Piece

White to move: 1. Bc6! Qxc4 2. Bxd7+

In the example, the black bishop on d7 is pinned because moving it would allow Qxd8+.

Since a pinned piece cannot move without exposing another target, it can become a target itself. By attacking it, you may create additional tactical opportunities or even win the piece.
