1. Bd7! is actually a defensive tactic that uses the idea of a discovered attack to save the pinned white rook.
The point is that black can’t capture the bishop since it would allow Rxg6+, followed by Qxd7.

If …Qd8, the white rook can move, because the Bd7 is protected by the queen on g4
