Academy | Calculation | Framework | Resources
Your calculations will be much more effective if you are aware of all potential tactical targets and resources before calculating any moves.
A tactical target (covered in the tactics section) is a piece or square you can attack directly—for example, an exposed enemy king that can be checked, undefended pieces that can be captured, or key defenders that can be undermined.
Tactical resources are moves or combination of moves you can use to create new targets or exploit current targets. Some resources may be obvious, while others can hidden and must be uncovered.
The following examples will illustrate what is meant by “tactical resources.”
Takeaway
Make it a habit to be aware of all potential targets and tactical resources on the board, as this awareness will make your calculations more effective, particularly to uncover hidden tactical ideas.
