Interference

Interference involves blocking a line of communication between two enemy pieces. By cutting off a defender or disrupting coordination, an interference move can create immediate tactical opportunities.

Here are three examples of Interference.

Example #1

1… Bb1 breaks the connection between White’s queen and rook.


Example #2

1… Nf3+ Breaks the connection between White’s queen and rook.


Example #3

1… Bd4! Prevents White’s idea to play Be5. Black’s a-pawn will now promote.
