In addition to my free chess course (aimed at late-beginner to intermediate level players), I also highly recommend the chess training materials created by the following authors:
Note: I only recommend materials that I’ve used extensively myself. I’ve worked through many online chess courses and the ones I suggest here are the ones that I believe will give you the best value for your training time.
Let me also give you the specific reasons why I recommend the above-mentioned materials:
Why I recommend chess courses by GM Smirnov
The courses by GM Smirnov shoot straight to the point. His advice is always practical. Everything he teaches can be instantly applied to your games and you will see an improvement in your results right away.
GM Smirnov holds a FIDE Grandmaster title. That clearly implies he knows what he is talking about! In addition to that, he also has a lot of coaching experience. He understands how to teach–and that is something that many so called “chess coaches” lack. It is clear the GM Smirnov has a lot of experience as a professional chess coach and this shows in his practical approach to teaching.
My personal favorite is the course – The Grandmaster’s Positional Understanding.
Why I recommend the Chessmaster School
If you are someone who prefers structure and detail, then the Chessmaster School may very well offer the kind of materials you are looking for.
I specifically recommend their “grandmaster package“, which is a one-year structured course.
